If there's conflict, David's a useful man to have on your side. David specialises in litigation, and has extensive courtroom experience.
He grew up in Dunedin and after his law degree at Otago he went straight into litigation and criminal prosecution with a local firm.
Now he's seeking new challenges with Gallaway Cook Allan, he says. ”This firm impresses with its size and depth of talent. It's going places.”
David enjoys the process of being an advocate in the courts. “I like resolving disputes, especially where the parties are going to have an ongoing relationship. It's a challenge to preserve that relationship. It's good to arrive at a result that they can live with and continue to deal with each other. I also like the intellectual challenge, especially in civil work.”
He feels the pressures of litigation are eased by being part of a big firm. “It's good because there are many solicitors at varying levels of expertise. You have support at partnership level and there are staff to delegate to, so you know work will be done effectively and cost- efficiently.
“Everyone is very committed to what they do for clients but they are also relaxed. The firm has a great family atmosphere as well as a great reputation.”
David also has a reputation for being in his element in court. “It's the kind of job you can only do effectively with experience-time on your feet. I've spent much of
my career there, so I'm very comfortable in the courtroom environment.”
Away from law, David enjoys quality time with his young family, and has just started playing touch rugby. Formerly a qualified ambulance officer, he could be a very useful team player!
